Honduras Relief Efforts Inc. is a non-profit organization that was formed in 1998 by Central Florida Hondurans after Hurricane Mitch devastated the country of Honduras. We are dedicated to helping the people of Honduras through volunteer medical missions and child sponsorships.
We are dedicated to helping the impoverished people of Honduras through donations from concerned businesses and individuals.
There are many ways in which Honduras Relief Efforts, Inc. (HRE) assists with the needs of the Hondurans. One way HRE has been helping is through collaboration with Brigada de Salud, an organization of physicians, nurding professors, nursing students and volunteers, under the guidance of Dr. Nancy Crigger from Graceland University in Liberty, Missouri, and the unselfish support of Dr. Marc Elie Eugene to provide better healthcare through educational programs and clinics to rural villages.
Why HELP TO HONDURAS ?
Rural poverty in Honduras is among the most severe in Latin America. Approximately 53% of the population is rural, and it is estimated that 75% of the rural population lives below the poverty line, unable to meet basic needs. The country still has high rates of population growth, infant mortality, child malnutrition and illiteracy. These and other social and economic factors reflect its status as the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, after Haiti.
Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the American continent, with over 60% of the population living in what the United Nations officially classify as poverty. Most Hondurans work very hard to earn, on average, USD183.00 a month. Those in the agriculture and industrial sectors earn the lowest wages; those employed by the services sector earn slightly better salaries
